February news

Winter is definitely waning with the appearance of snowdrops, daffies pushing up through the soil together with the little red buds of rhubarb.  The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch counted bumper numbers of tree sparrows and yellow hammers, along with usual suspects – blackbirds, robins, blue, great and coal tits, dunnocks etc etc.  But the best thing for me about doing the count is that I am forced to sit and enjoy what’s outside my window.

February is ‘marmalade month’ and it’s good to be back into the annual routine of stocking the cupboard once again with home made goodies.

A couple of days ago I went over to see the 30m tall Kelpies at Falkirk.  As many of you will know, one of our rooms is called Kelpie – did the idea for the sculpture come from us?   The works of art created by Andy Scott represent the iconic Clydesdale heavy horses that were integral to the industry and economy of the area, pulling ploughs, barges, wagons and coal ships.

The next exhibition at the V&A Dundee opens on Saturday, 5 March – Michael Clark, Cosmic Dancer https://www.vam.ac.uk/dundee/exhibitions/michael-clark-cosmic-dancer .   Never feel disinclined to explore these changing exhibitions because there is always something for everyone.  This exhibition promises to be an immersive experience exploring dance, design, art, fashion and music. It is the first major exhibition on Michael Clark and is curated and organised by Barbican, London.  It’s sure to be excellent.

There are various nearby gardens to enjoy snowdrops which are now at their best.  The nearest is Cambo Gardens  https://www.cambogardens.org.uk/visit/snowdrop-walks/ .  Or admire snowdrops by candlelight at Teasses Estate   https://www.teasses.com/gardens/workshops/  .

The days are definitely lengthening so there’s now more time to enjoy the beautiful countryside and coastline of Fife so before the end of the month, why not take advantage of our special offer for a three night stay.
